LaCie has announced new wireless HD media players, the LaCinema Black PLAY and LaCinema Black RECORD, with designer Neil Poulton stepping in on the aesthetic side of things.

The new LaCinema offerings allow users to watch downloaded HD movies and television programmes directly on the television, while a built-in UPnP client player means users can access media content from a networked PC or Mac from anywhere in the home.

The LaCinema Black PLAY and RECORD can be hooked up either by a direct network connection, or the built-in Wi-Fi, which LaCie says makes it easy to store music, movies and photos from any computer on the local network.

Capable of decoding 1080p resolution movies, HD JPEG photos and offering 1080i up-scaling of standard definition movies, there's also the option of surround sound through the optical audio output.

In addition, LaCinema Black RECORD features DVR tech, which allows users to record, pause, and rewind TV shows with the support of a connected set-top box or cable converter.

Also boasting USB ports for connecting peripherals, the LaCinema Black PLAY and RECORD are available starting at 500GB from £289.
