Microsoft talks Windows 7 hardware

Mouse, keyboard and webcam compatibility

Following the news that Windows 7 will see general availability on 22 October, Microsoft Hardware has confirmed that its current line of mice, keyboards, webcams and other accessories will be fully compatible with the new OS, and has revealed when product software will be available.

The company says it has created new, "timesaving" features for Windows 7 to ensure that anyone using the new operating system gets a better experience.

One of these is "Taskbar Favorites" that gives Microsoft keyboard users a "smart new way" to access their most frequently used programs and documents.

In addition, Microsoft mouse and keyboard products will support "Device Stage" a Windows 7 feature that gives customers quick and easy access to common tasks for devices such as phones, cameras, printers, etc.

There's also support for Windows Flip that lets Microsoft mouse and keyboard users see a thumbnail preview of all open windows with the press of a button.

Windows 7 owning LifeCam users will be able to use Windows Live Movie Maker and Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Beta versions of Microsoft mouse, keyboard, controller and webcam software are available now for Windows 7.

Final versions of product software, which include Taskbar Favorites, Device Stage, Windows Flip, Windows Live Movie Maker and Windows Live Photo Gallery will be available 26 June for mice and keyboards and 31 July for LifeCam products.
