Nintendo reveals whole host of E3 announcements

Wii Fit Plus, new Super Mario games, Vitality Sensor and "edgy" games for grown ups

Demonstrating the Nintendo Wii's coming soon MotionPlus controller, the Japanese games giant has revealed more activities that will appear in Wii Sports Resort game.

As well as sword play, power cruising and disc dog confirmed at launch, and table tennis and golf shown in a recent teaser, there will also be basketball, archery and kayaking.

Also revealed is that the game will begin with a sky dive onto the Wii Sports Resort island - something that will apparently double as a tutorial on how to use the new controller.

In addition new Super Mario Bros games have been announced, "New Super Mario Bros Wii", as well as "Super Mario Galaxy 2", alongside a sequel to Wii Fit - "Wii Fit Plus" - offering more exercise-based activities and mini games.

Trying to make the Wii platform more appealing to the grown-up gamer, and "edgier", Nintendo has announced "Dead Space: Extraction", "Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles", "The Conduit" and "Metroid: Other M" from Team Ninja.

Nintendo also revealed other coming soon titles, stating that both the Wii and the DS platforms offered "something for everyone".

This will soon include "Red Steel 2", a MotionPlus exclusive, "Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story", "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers", "COP: The Recruit" and "Golden Sun" for DS, due in 2010.

In addition, and clearly aiming at that female gaming casual market, thriller novelist James Patterson has turned his "Women's Murder Club" franchise over to a DS game where gamers will solve mysteries in a kind of interactive book format and younger girls can enjoy "Style Savvy", a sort of dress-making, boutique-running exercise.

Announcements for DSi owners included photo sharing on Facebook, Flipnotes Studio, an app that sees drawn animations uploaded and WarioWare: DIY, a suite of tools to create and share WarioWare games, all functions coming soon.

On the wacky side, as you'd expect from Nintendo, is the announcement of the Wii Vitality Sensor, a Wiimote add on that appears to be some kind of pulse sensor that fits onto the end of your finger and will be linked with a wellbeing-type offering from Nintendo in the future.
