Microsoft has announced it is integrating social networking functionality into its Xbox platform.

Xbox LIVE will get not only a Facebook application that will let gaming Facebookers access their profiles, photos and friend's pages via the console, but also a Twitter client for the micro-blogging site.

The Facebook integration will be through Facebook's Connect sign-in programme and will see users able to see their Xbox LIVE buddies as well as their Facebook friends.

Microsoft says: "Using Facebook Connect, you can share your greatest moments in gaming by posting updates and screenshots from supported games directly to Facebook".

The Twitter application will allow Xbox gamers to sign into the popular service via their console.

Both social networking offerings are due to go live on LIVE this autumn, we'll bring you more from the official Microsoft release due soon.
