Acer announces Android phone due in Q4
As it joins Open Handset Alliance

We already kinda mostly knew this, but Acer has made its Android plans extra official in a press release revealing its Android handset-making ambitions.
The PC and smartphone maker has revealed it has signed on the line for an Open Handset Alliance membership, in a move the company says "demonstrates its support for Android as an open mobile platform and its commitment to Android's commercial success".
Acer says its first Android-based smartphone is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
Observers might hope it is a little more exciting than the company's smartphone launches from earlier this year, that were arguably lack-lustre revamps of E-Ten devices, following Acer's buy-out of the phone company.
