Sailing fanatics will be itching to get their hands on the DS Series Dry Suit from Suunto. The DS Series is a complete foul-weather system that will stand up to the worst that the weather will throw at you, so you can get on with the serious business of sailing. The system comprises of a compatible system of components, based around the trousers and smock, both constructed from Gore-Tex or X-Tex to ensure waterproofing and breathability.
However, the real difference is in how the component parts fit together. Suunto have created a new horizontal waterproof zipper system that allows the top and bottom to become one single dry suit, without compromising on flexibility or comfort.
The cuffs and neck are all secured with 2.5mm neoprene and easy-fitting Gore-Tex socks at the hem, so even when submersed in water, you remain dry and warm. Should you get swept overboard, there is a large reflective panel on the back of the jacket, as well as in other strategic places. The waterproofing is effective to 1.7bar, so should cater for most surface submersions.
Additional extras include a neoprene hood and gloves that can be integrated, so this really is the complete system. Suunto have also considered important things like drainage holes in the pockets, and a zipper so you can relieve yourself without a struggle.
