Sony Pictures has announced its pricing structure for its next generation Blu-ray discs suggesting that new disks will cost as much as $35 each for premium title.

Although Sony hasn't set a suggested retail price for the new discs in America for consumers, it has announced that it will be charging retail outlets $23.45 per disc for premium titles and $17.95 for catalogue titles.

The price is a 20% increase on current DVD prices in America and Sony Pictures must be banking on the fact that consumers will be happy to pay for the improved picture quality, features and storage capabilities.

Studios such as Warner, Universal and Paramount, who have backed the opposition format HD-DVD have yet to announce their projected wholesale prices although it is now expected that they will either be similar or lower.
