Palm Pre syncs seamlessly with iTunes

How will Apple respond?

Palm Pre syncs seamlessly with iTunes

28 May 2009 17:53 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Palm has quietly let slip that its forthcoming phone, the Pre, syncs happily with iTunes. It turns out that the iTunes Store treats the Pre just like an iPod or iPhone and you can sync with it happily.

Third party programs that'll let devices interface with iTunes have been available for years, but Palm appears to have built the code into the device from day one.

Apple is making no comment for now but given that its legal team hasn't been shy about baring its teeth at Palm in the past, we wouldn't be surprised if this disclosure caused yet another kerfuffle between the companies.

  • iuTunes? What is this?

And also, I can't see any way in for Apple to go for Palm's throat over the Pre because it syncs with iTunes. If that happens, surely Microsoft will have a field day with every third party manufacturer that didn't pay a premium for compatibility support.
