Following the launch of its "Remote Record" app for the iPhone that's hit a quarter of a million downloads, Sky has announced it's now offering a Sky News app for the iPhone.

The free to download application for the iPhone and iPod touch claims to deliver breaking news by text, images and video and features seven different categories - top stories, UK news, sport, business, world news, showbiz, skynews.com's "strange news" category as well as weather reports.

And in what Sky is saying is a first among UK-based news broadcasters, users will be able to send Sky News their own stories and pictures directly through the application.

The app is available now for free from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch via the iTunes App Store.
