Mac clone maker Psystar has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Florida, a development that is likely to slow down Apple's legal case against the company for making unauthorised PCs running Apple's operating system.Industry commentators say the filing could be an indication that Psystar's financial backers have withdrawn their support for the company, perhaps suggesting they see Apple as the likely victors in a court battle.
The Florida court is due to hold a hearing on 5 June in which Psystar's backers will be revealed, "which means if there have been deep pockets behind the company's fight against Apple, those names will finally come out of the shadows", reports MacObserver.
Apple's case against Psystar sees the cloning co violating its End User License of Leopard on non Apple-branded hardware, while Psystar says Apple "stretches copyright laws". Biz, Lawsuits, Hardware, Psystar, Apple
