Visual mood analysis in future phones?

Sony Ericsson patents playlists from facial expressions

22 May 2009 10:32 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

A recently revealed Sony Ericsson patent describes future mobile phone functionality that could see playlists automatically generated based on how you are feeling.

The system would "read" facial expressions by snapping a quick pic and then determine whether you were in the mood for Bryan Adams or Ryan Adams, using the company's SenseMe music tech to pull suitable songs from your library.

The patent, "Generating music playlist based on facial expression", the visual mood analysis could either spot particular facial characteristics, compare your face against a preset, or see video uploaded to the phone showing your mug with various emotions plastered across it.
