Promises 80-inch throw from the palm of your hand

BenQ has today announced the launch of their hand sized GP1 mini LED projector, hoping to give movie or PowerPoint fans the option to go big on the move.

The new projector, called the GP1, will come with a USB port so you can plug in and play without the need of connecting a computer or DVD player and create an image up to 80-inches in size.

Fitting in the palm of your hand the mini projector comes equipped with lamp-free LED technology, will weigh in at 640g (1.4Ib) and is compatible with mass storage devices such as digital cameras, PDAs, iPods, iPhones, and Smartphones.

It also comes with an integrated 2w speaker and headphone jack so you can enjoy audio from the GP1, further enriching your audiovisual enjoyment.

According to BenQ "compared to the average 55%-80% NTSC of most projectors, the GP1 noticeably outperforms with bolder, more deeply saturated hues across a broader colour gamut. The 15-80-inch image in 4:3 native format (16:9 selectable) is adjustable with digital zoom and preset picture PC and A/V modes".

Auto play modes, auto keystone, auto search, and "Wall Colour Correction" settings are controllable and connectivity includes D-Sub, Composite, and USB inputs and PC audio output.

Files supported include JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF for photos, MPEG-1, MJPEG for video and MPEG-1 layer 2 and PCM for audio suggesting no DivX or MPEG4 support.

However BenQ has told Pocket-lint that it will include software on a CD in the box to let you convert your files to the right format.

The GP1 does come with ArcSoft MediaConverter software inside the manual CD, which will basically allows you to convert your files to the formats required.

There is even an optional detachable iPod/iPhone docking station.

The GP1 Mini Projector will be available June 2009 in the U.K for £499.
