Not content to be producing the "world's smallest" 2.5-inch external hard drive, Freecom also wants to be in the technology record books by making the world's smallest 3.5-inch drive, too.

The "Hard Drive XS" is the big brother of the dinky Hard Drive XXS, which Pocket-lint brought you news of last July. While it's tiny in size, it's rather capacious - it'll be available in 500GB and 1TB variants.

The unit is fanless, so it's almost silent, and weighs just 860g. It connects via USB 2.0, and costs 79 euros for the 500GB model or 109 euros for the 1TB. That's about £70 and £100 respectively, at current exchange rates.
