Suunto offers limited-edition red and yellow Foot PODs

Strap one on to your shoelaces and go for a run

11 May 2009 18:05 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Suunto, the company that makes sports watches which monitor your heart rate and speed while jogging, has announced the limited availability of its Foot POD units in red and yellow.

The devices, which clamp on to your shoes and measure how far you've run, have previously only been obtainable in boring black.

The Foot POD differs from traditional pedometers because it's able to more accurately measure distance and speed if stride length varies.

This apparently is useful as many "serious" runners alter their running style depending on how tired they are, the surface they're running on and the weather conditions.

The new, brightly coloured, Foot PODs will start showing up in shops late this summer, and will cost £70.

  • They look very similar to the Garmin Foot Pod, available for a few quid cheaper. Posted by Garmin Footpod Owner, England
  • They use the same outer shells but the way they measure speed and distance (acceleration monitors) are different. I asked at the London Marathon as they both had them on display. Posted by Suunto t6c / Foot pod owner, England
