Digitize video from any analogue video source straight onto your Mac

Elgato has launched the Elgato Video Capture, angled as the "ideal solution" for transferring analogue video to a Mac and then to your iPhone or iPod.

The USB 2.0 video device connects video recorders, set top boxes, camcorders, DVD players, and basically any other analogue video sources to a Mac, thanks to its Composite and S-Video inputs with a composite video RCA adapter cable as well as a SCART adapter included in the box.

The said to be easy-to-use video capture software supports the NTSC, PAL, PAL/60 and SECAM input video standards and digitizes the video at resolutions up to 640 x 480 pixels into the H.264, or MPEG-4, formats that are native to iTunes and YouTube-friendly.

Users can select between 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios to match the source video for optimal playback quality. Digitized videos can then be transferred to iTunes, played back in QuickTime Player, uploaded to YouTube, or opened in iMovie.

Elgato Video Capture requires a Macintosh computer with an Intel Core Duo processor, Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later, QuickTime 7.6 or later, and iTunes 8.1 or later. Elgato Video Capture will be available in the next few days online at www.elgato.com, priced at £89.95.
