John Lewis to open standalone electricals stores

30 locations being looked at for new format shops

Retailer for the middle classes, John Lewis, has revealed plans for standalone home and electrical stores.

30 locations are currently being considered for the new, smaller stores in a £6 million investment plan, reports Retail Week.

It seems the "smaller" description is only in comparison to the size of John Lewis department stores, as the new shops will join other chains located in charming, out of town retail "parks".

The first of the new stores is scheduled to open its doors in October in Poole, Dorset, and will offer around two-thirds of the retailer's full home and electricals range.

"We know our competitors have a much higher coverage in the UK than we do, and our research has show that there are growth opportunities for our business in smaller format shops, giving our customers more convenient access to John Lewis packages", retail director Gareth Thomas told Retail Week.
