Following reports that Apple was the latest company to be eyeing Twitter for a possible acquisition, the two founders of Twitter have now gone on record to deny they are about to be bought out.

ComputerWorld reports that Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams were on the morning talk show "The View" when host Barbara Walters quizzed them about the recent buy out rumours. Stone said, "No. We are not for sale."

Stone also added that right now, "Twitter is focused on developing new features on its Web site and on remaining independent".

The Apple rumour had pegged the price for the micro-blogging site at $700 million, Facebook had previously tried to buy the site for $500 million but failed. It has yet to make money.
