With the public release of the RC version of Windows 7, now available to download, Microsoft has revealed new artwork commissioned for Windows 7 wallpapers.

Part of new personalisation content in the build, that includes wallpapers, glass colours and sounds schemes, Microsoft says "one thing we know is that Windows users love to express themselves by changing the desktop background".

Commissioned from illustrators around the world, Microsoft is angling the new artwork as just one way to personalise the new operating system that's due a full launch in October, according to Acer.

"We wanted to recognize the global audience of Windows by seeking out illustrators with varied backgrounds and styles with the intention of representing and appealing to people all around the world", the company said in a blog post.
