Daily Tech Deal: Free 3 mobile broadband dongle

Money saving deals, offers and innovations

5 May 2009 13:00 GMT / By Ben Crompton

Today's Tech Deal will point you in the right direction to get a free mobile broadband dongle from 3.

Head on over to http://www.3dongle4free.co.uk and register and for a postage and packaging charge of £4.95, you'll soon have a USB modem winging its way to you.

Offering speeds of up to 3.6Mbps on 3's network, credit can be bought for the "Pay As You Go" dongle from £10.

Ideal for those looking to get connected on the go without splashing out for the hardware, or committing to a contract, there's also a prize draw for a laptop for those that register before the end of May.

UPDATE: Due to technical issues, this site has been taken offline for the rest of today (6th). The company says it should be back up and running tomorrow morning and apologise for any inconvenience.

  • Shame it doesnt work. Also the code 3-REDEEM-DONGLE says its invalid.

Tried to order one now and it says it will cost me nearly £40 incl postage.

  • It also wants a reference number, do you make that up?

  • Turns out this offer is valid. HOWEVER. You need to register, then wait for an email with a new offer code, which needs to be redeemed during the order process. Then enter a made up reference number and then you order will go through. Not the simple one click process that the article might seem to suggest. So go for it guys and gals! Posted by Steve Page, UK
  • Pocket-lint has been in touch with the company to check this deal and its seems they've experienced some "minor tech issues" with the online order process but these are being sorted.

PS. They say they "very much" value your custom and patience.

  • Also when you do register it sends you back to www.3dongleoffer.com, and it should be a .co.uk Posted by Stephen Page, United Kingdom
  • When you enter your card details it is just an http://.... not https://.... and it seems the domain www.3dongle4free.co.uk registered on 15th of April 2009

  • Steve- looks like you entered the part code. I got sent a code on e-mail like it says. I entered it and it worked. You do have to pay postage. Posted by rezza, United Kingdom
  • This is a genuine offer, I tried signing up yesterday but was informed the site was having technical difficulties. It's a simple case of registering and then logging in with the details emailed to you. Enter the voucher code and click the small button to the right, this changes the price to £0.00 for the dongle. Click checkout and enter anything for the mandatory reference. I was concerned about the lasck of https:// on the cc details page but checked and was advised the company (Micro Peripherals) are waiting for the secure certificate. I did have to enter the verified by visa details and am waiting for my dongle now. Posted by Neil Shoreman, UK
  • I have spoken to MicroP today and confirmed it is a genuine offer. My card was billed by MicroP in Accrington (says so on my bank account) and I have done business with MicroP for years. So this is genuine. Yes there is a goof, they did not have SSL security on the website, hence why it is now down until they get that added and tested and working ok. So no panic, no matter what someone on Money Saving Expert screams at you! LOL Posted by Stephen Page, UK
  • I received mine today 9th May. Will now have to see if the thing works Posted by Richard Burke, UK
  • I can confirm this is genuine - after waiting and not receiving the first in the time stated I emailed them and got a second one delivered immediately. Posted by angelo328, UK
