Thumbs Up is now offering the officially approved replica of the original series' Communicator as a VoIP phone.

The replica gadget has a built-in microphone and speaker that allows it to be used for two way voice communication with most internet messaging services such as Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM and iChat.

Offering USB hook up for your PC or laptop, it also features 21 sound effects from the original classic Star Trek series for an "authentic experience".

Compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X 10.5, it's on sale now for a fans-only price tag of £49.99.
