RIM CEO confirms BlackBerry Storm 2

New model inbound, but stops short of spilling details

Research In Motion CEO Jim Balsillie has confirmed that the company is working on the next version of the BlackBerry Storm.

"We have next-generation devices with that and the whole roadmap", the RIM boss confirmed to analysts and investors.

According to Reuters, who broke the story, Balsillie told those listening that the Storm "was a huge success in terms of sales and adoption".

The news confirms earlier rumours that suggested a new device would launch later this year, possibly September on Verizon and probably Vodafone in the UK.

Said to be "an even better pro-consumer device than the first Storm", website Slashgear reported that according to its sources the phone's "click" touchscreen would be improved and the much missed Wi-Fi connectivity added.

The news comes as retail research group NPD found that the BlackBerry Storm was the third most popular smartphone in the US for the first quarter of the year coming in behind the iPhone and RIM's 2-year-old BlackBerry Curve.
