Acer confirms Windows 7 available 23 October

Exec spills the beans over new all-in-one's launch

30 April 2009 17:03 GMT / By Chris Hall

Acer has confirmed that Windows 7 will be available pre-loaded on their new all-in-one Z5600 PC from the 23 October 2009, not by the end of January 2010 as Microsoft has been previously suggesting.

Although some rumours have put the OS' release closer to the end of 2009, Microsoft has yet to officially confirm that the software will be launched sooner than the 3-years-after-Vista timescale.

Acer also confirmed to us that any Vista-based models purchased in the 30 days prior to this date will be eligible for Microsoft's free upgrade programme.

"23rd October is the date the Windows 7 will be available. There is a 30 day upgrade time so that customers don't wait to buy a new computer, so if you buy during that 30 day period, you'll get a free upgrade to Windows 7", Bobby Watkins, Acer's UK MD told Pocket-lint.

Talking about their new all-in-one model, the Z5600 PC, specifically designed for Windows 7, the company revealed that the Asus Eee Top rival, will actually be shipping at the end of September to be in stores for people to "touch and feel".

  • OOh yet another OS to be brought out. Yes this is better than Vista but if they think i'm buying it they can forget it, I'm getting a new PC for Uni this coming July/August and cannot wait till October, so I guess i'll just have to buy my self something very powerful to overcome the performance drop of vista.
It will probably be an Acer (hahaha what a coincedence)

  • "performance drop of vista"

I really don't think you know what you're talking about. The vitriol around Vista is just crazy and unfounded.

  • I do not believe the October 23rd date. It comes at the end of the major U.S. back-to-school selling season and could postpone buying by thousands of people in order to get into the 30-day free upgrade cycle. The Microsoft OEM's will absolutely hate this date because it will cost them money. Posted by Catalina588, USA

  • I have been running a beta of windows 7 for a while now and I find it one of the smartest, most stable OS's for a long time - it has even caused me less problems than my 8 core mac pro running os10.5!!!!!!

I am REALLY excited to see it come out and settle in! I am already planning to move my music studio back over to PC's!

  • WinMo 6.5 will hit in October of this year, alongside a whole bucketload of new smartphones built around Microsoft's latest stab at the mobile market. But 6.5 isn't going to be Redmond's only attempt to regain their lost share of the smartphone market. If Ars Technica is right, WinMo 7.0 is in beta testing right now, and could be headed to stores sooner than you think. Visit http://www.i4u.com/article26766.html for more info. • I also have not got my copy - spoke to acer today who were useless and have threatened them with legal action. the company distirubiting are rubbish and you can't contact them - wish I had never both the computers now and waited. Microsoft don't want to know despite them "endorsing" the distributino via mentor media - I am taking Acer to small claims court for numrous phone calls and compensation on breaking contract. How can a huge company like microsoft use Mentor Media who are impossible to contact, take your money and don't reply to e mails Posted by Vanessa Hardin, UK
