Browser sees big growth

27 April 2009 12:00 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Opera is boasting "explosive growth" for its Opera Mini mobile phone web browser, claiming it has seen usage up 157% year-over-year.

In March 2009, more than 23 million people used Opera Mini, a 12.1% increase from February 2009 and more than 157% increase from March 2008.

Those users viewed more than 8.6 billion pages in March 2009 with Opera Mini serving 148 million MB of data to handsets worldwide.

Thanks to a "snapshot" day-long survey on 17 March, in the UK, Opera says Google was the most visited site via the browser, followed by Yahoo, Facebook and the BBC.

  • I just wish that they'd sort out Flash support. It really suffocates the otherwise accomplished mobile experience when giant swathes of the internet are filled with blank space.

I wouldn't mind being able to forward urls via my Nokia's buit-in email client too. That oversight on Opera's part just seems embarassing.
