Ordered to pay out $19 million

Apple guilty of wilful patent infringement

Apple has been found guilty of patent infringement and ordered to pay $19 million in compensation in a Texas court.

Opti Inc, a technology company based in Palo Alto, filed the lawsuit against Apple in January 2007.

A jury has now found that Apple had "wilfully infringed" on Opti's data transfer-related patent for "predictive snooping of cache memory for master-initiated accesses".

Apple's argument that the case be dismissed due to "prior art and obviousness" of the patent was not heeded and the jury has awarded Opti $19,009,728 as a "reasonable royalty for infringement".
