Panasonic TVs get Amazon Video On Demand service

Panasonic TV owners will soon be able to watch over 40,000 movies on demand thanks to a new partnership with Amazon and the Japanese TV maker.

Announced on Thursday, Panasonic has teamed up with online retailer Amazon to allow all Viera Cast enabled HD televisions to access the book sellers Video On Demand service from the comfort of their sofa.

Users keen to get movies on demand will be able to access the 40,000 movies listed including over 500 titles in HD at the "press" of a button.

Automatically coming on all 2009 models, owners of Panasonic’s 2008 Viera PZ850 series HDTV line will have to download an update.

Panasonic has said that it also hopes to bring the technology to its 2009 line of Viera Cast-enabled Blu-ray disc players by the summer.

Launched in 2008, the Viera Cast system connects to the Internet via an Ethernet cable and allows TV viewers to already access YouTube videos and Google Picasa photo galleries.

We are awaiting confirmation as to whether the service is a global one or just restricted to the US.
