A gaming mashup of mega proportions, it's been announced that the development of LEGO Rock Band is underway.

Warner Bros and TT Games are joining forces with LEGO, Harmonix and MTV Games to merge the two popular video game franchises.

Described as a "unique family-friendly music experience", players will be able to "build a band and rock the universe".

Due to be available for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii, the game is scheduled for release in 2009.

Songs will include Kung Fu Fighting, The Final Countdown and Song 2 from Blur.

The companies say: "LEGO Rock Band combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the fun, customization and humour of the LEGO videogame franchise".
