Netgear has announced the worldwide availability of the Digital Entertainer Elite, or EVA9150, describing it as a "powerful and flexible digital media player for enabling consumers to seamlessly stream digital content over their home networks to their high-definition home entertainment systems".

With an upgradable 500GB hard drive it can be used to playback high-res video, photos, MP3s and recorded television shows from user's PCs or from storage on their network.

The EVA9150 also lets users enjoy internet content such as YouTube, internet radio, Flickr, RSS feeds and videos from other popular websites.

The Digital Entertainer Elite works with Windows, Mac and Linux-based computers, as well as with NAS devices, in addition, the device offers two USB ports for content from USB flash drives, digital cameras, iPod or other USB storage device.

The EVA9150 carries out searching and indexing directly on the device, something that means users can navigate content across multiple PCs and devices at the same time.

With "Push 'N' Connect" technology to "easily and securely" connect the device to wireless networks, the EVA9150 also offers an energy-efficient power supply and auto-sleep mode which consumes as little as .01 watts.

The Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite is available now for $399.
