Following leaks, and LG's German operations confirming the device via its blog, LG has now officially announced the launch of its 6.5-million selling Viewty successor - the LG-GC900 Viewty Smart.

With a focus on imaging, the Viewty Smart offers an 8-megapixel camera as well as an "Intelligent Shot Mode" with seven auto scene settings that claims to make it easy to take great pictures by automatically analysing scenes and adjusting camera settings accordingly.

In addition, there's ISO up to 1600, an LED flash, multi-face detection and DVD-quality video recording.

12.4mm deep, apparently the thinnest 8MP cameraphone around, and with a 3-inch 800 x 480 resolution WVGA screen, the new phone offers 7.2Mbps HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivty. There's also A-GPS for geo-tagging pics.

The Viewty Smart gets LG's new 3D S-Class UI, which debuted on the Arena earlier this year, although on the Viewty Smart there's an on-screen dial for instantly switching shot modes and a thumbnail viewer that shows recently taken photos without having to switch to the photo gallery.

In addition, the touch interface means moving a finger in a clockwise circle on the touchscreen zooms in, while anti-clockwise zooms out and zooming is also possible with multi-touch pinching and stretching.

Other features include 1.5 GB of internal memory and microSD card support up to 32GB.

The LG Viewty Smart will be available in Europe in May.
