LaCie has announced the launch of the Rugged XL describing it as a "super-sized" expansion to the company's range of Rugged hard drives.

The LaCie Rugged XL doubles the current largest capacity to 1TB and is compatible with both Macs and PCs, while it supports both Hi-Speed USB and eSATA 3Gbps.

With aluminium casing as well as an orange rubber sleeve, the new version offers an internal bumper and heat dissipating features.

To be supplied with a software bundle for formatting, Genie Backup Assistant software for Windows users and Intego Backup Assistant software for Mac users, the drive goes on sale for around £140.
