Following the news we brought you that this would be the case, Packard Bell has launched new "dot" branded netbooks.

The original 8.9-inch dot netbook never made it to the UK market, although the company insists it was big in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Nordics.

Here in the UK we will be getting the larger dot s and dot m netbook, 10.1- and 11.6-inchers that Packard Bell compares to the "Moleskine notebook used by Ernest Hemingway... the perfect jot pad to organize your life on the go".

The Atom-powered netbooks offer Windows XP and get a "chic glossy" cover and 16:9 ratio screens as well as a multi-gesture touchpad.

Features are country dependent but are said to include Wi-Fi, a webcam, optional Bluetooth and optional 3G, a five-in-one card reader, 160GB hard drive, the full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and will come complete with a "lovely protector and carrying case".

The 10-inch dot s will be available this week at 299 euros while the 11.6-inch dot m will go on sale end of April from 399 euros.
