Garmin looks to be updating its Oregon 400 GPS model with the Oregon 500 model, as details of the new device leak out ahead of an official launch.

Although the company has yet to officially announce anything, that hasn't stopped one online retailer jumping the gun.

Handtec.co.uk is listing the new GPS device, perfect for geocaching, at £353.97 with a coming soon badge.

The new unit ups the ante on the previous model, which we recently reviewed with a digital camera so users can take images out and about.

According to the blurb on the product page: "This next-generation handheld features a rugged, touchscreen along with a built-in basemap with shaded relief, a high-sensitivity receiver, barometric altimeter, electronic compass, microSD card slot, picture viewer and more. Even exchange tracks, waypoints, routes and geocaches wirelessly between similar units".

Like the previous model it will feature a 3-inch display and be rugged enough to withstand bumps and knocks when out on the trail.

Still powered by two AA batteries the spec sheet doesn't actually detail the camera used in the device although we suspect it will be 2 - 3 megapixels.

We are awaiting further conformation from Garmin.

We will keep you posted.
