While the UK is gearing up for the launch of the HTC Touch Diamond2, spare a thought for our American friends who it seems are only just getting their hands on the first version of the handset.

Verizon has announced that its customers will finally be able to get their hands on the handset from Saturday.

Those keen to take a ride back into gadget history will find a phone sporting a 2.76-inch touchscreen display, 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera, microSD card slot and Windows Mobile 6.1.

The HTC Touch Diamond, say the mobile operator, will be available for $299.99 after a $70 mail-in rebate with a new 2-year customer agreement.

Meanwhile in the UK, customers are eagerly awaiting the Diamond2, which dramatically improves on virtually all areas of the original handset.

Expected in the UK shortly, no operator has been confirmed as yet, however expect it to be available on all networks.

We will keep you posted.
