Amazon launches Xbox LIVE store

First retailer to offer codes for downloading games

9 April 2009 16:24 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

In the States, Amazon has launched the Amazon Xbox LIVE store in beta, the first time that codes for downloading Xbox LIVE games have been available from a retailer.

As you would imagine from the name, the store offers US consumers the chance to purchase and gift select Xbox LIVE games, subscription cards and Microsoft Points cards.

At the moment there are over 100 games available and Microsoft says: "We're happy to be extending our storefront to Amazon.com, a cutting-edge online retailer who is helping make digital distribution more mainstream".

It does not seem as if a UK launch for a similar scheme is imminent - Amazon in the UK won't comment on future plans, while Microsoft's Xbox team says they "don't have anything to announce at this time".
