Power Play has announced the launch of a new fitness accessory designed for use with the Wii and Wii Fit - a rather novel idea that sees the Wiimote and Nunchuk converted into dumbbells.

Called "Riiflex", the patent-pending peripherals claim to give users the resistance of weights while still allowing access to all of the controller's functions.

The Riiflex dumbbells will be sold in the States in pairs with preorder pricing set at $34.95 for two 2-pound weights and $39.95 for two 4-pound weights.

The new peripherals are due to start shipping this summer, we'll bring you news on a UK launch when we have it.

UPDATE: Power Play has got in touch with Pocket-lint to say they will "definitely" make the Riiflex "available in the UK as soon as possible", and point out there's a 30% discount for preorders.
