The original Beatles catalogue, digitally re-mastered for the first time, is to get a worldwide CD release on 09/09/09 - the same date as the The Beatles: Rock Band goes on sale.
However, there's still no news on the catalogue being made available for download. Apparently "discussions regarding the digital distribution of the catalogue will continue", but nothing to report as yet.
Apple Corps and EMI Music says each of the 12 CDs will be packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos.
The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo as well as "Magical Mystery Tour". In addition, the collections "Past Masters Vol. I and II" will be combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs.
The second boxed set is "The Beatles in Mono", all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release.
