MIDs will be faster in future, thanks to a launch from Intel.

The chip-maker has announced that a new Atom processor is to be released - the 2GHz Z550.

Making the year anniversary of the Atom family, Intel senior vice president Anand Chandrasekher revealed the news at a developer even in Beijing:

"We're announcing two new products in the Atom family. The Z550, this is the first 2GHz processor that will fit in your pocket", Chandrasekher said.

The other new launch is the Z515, which can run at up to 1.2GHz speeds and is also aimed at the MID market.
