iTunes variable pricing goes live

Apple has introduced its variable pricing plan to its iTunes download store in the both the US and the UK.

The new pricing was announced back in January at the Macworld expo, as the company revealed it was to offer more DRM-free music.

In the States, Apple will sell downloads with tiered pricing of either 69 cents, 99 cents or $1.29 per track.

UK pricing tiers are 59 pence, 79 pence and 99 pence. At the time of the announcement, Apple said this pricing is "based on what the music labels charge Apple".

Apple says its whole catalogue of over 10 million songs is now 100% iTunes Plus and available DRM-free in the higher quality 256 kbps AAC encoding.
