Imation launches SSDs and "upgrade kit"

DIY transition from HDD to SSD

1 April 2009 17:43 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Imation has launched a range of solid state drives and a new "easy-to-install" SSD "upgrade kit" to help consumers make the transition from hard disk to SSD technology.

Both drives feature ultra-thin profiles and shock resistance. Imation's new internal SSD drives will be available in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch configurations, with capacities ranging from 32GB to 128GB.

The Imation M-Class SSD is said to be "ideal" for home users whereas the Imation S-Class SSD is aimed at the enterprise market.

The upgrade kit includes an Imation SSD, a USB-to-SATA or SATA connector cable, a power cable, Acronis True Image HD software for migrating operating systems, applications and data from an existing hard drive to the new SSD and what are said to be easy-to-follow upgrade instructions.

The new SSD products and kit are available now starting at £108 for the 32GB M-Class SSD.

  • Funny, just looked around the internet for actual details and although these devices are listed with the usual suspects, none have useful details like transfer rates, whether it's SLC or MLC based (fast or slow basically) etc. I assume that their patronising 'ideal for home users' is the slow stuff (the 'M' in M-Class standing for MLC based slow chips) but it would be nice if they were just honest and actaully said the speeds achieveable.
