HTC Snap launches

As was rumoured would be the case, HTC has launched a new QWERTY smartphone at the CTIA Wireless event in Las Vegas, debuting the abruptly named "Snap".

Presumably not so named as that is what you might say if holding it next to a BlackBerry, the new handset runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and will offer HSDPA connectivity.

The 12mm thick handset features a 528MHz Qualcomm processor, 256MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, microSDHC for memory expansion as well as QVGA display, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and a 2-megapixel camera.

The Snap also features HTC's new "Inner Circle" functionality that can prioritise emails from certain contacts, to make sure important messages (from say Facebook, or Twitter alerts) don't get buried deep in a pile of work "spam".

The phone will launch in the States as the S522 this quarter, as well as the SIM-free S721 in the summer in the US, while the UK-bound Snap will be here "this summer", according to the smartphone co's Blighty-based PR.
