EA has announced its Active Personal Trainer game is coming to the Nintendo Wii in May 2009 and will be the first in a new line of fitness products.

EA Active Personal Trainer is angled as perfect for the whole family, and a cost-effective (£45) way to keep fit in your own home, with the "costs less than a gym membership" line.

As well as cardio exercise, the game will offer a variety of "interactive activities" that target both the upper and lower body and offers a two player mode for those that like to get competitive.

EA Active Personal Trainer will include a specially-designed leg strap that holds the Wii's Nunchuk controller to track lower body movements, as well as a resistance band to support a number of upper body strength training exercises.

The game works with the Wii Balance Board, the accessory bundled with Nintendo's Wii Fit game, so will tap into the market of those who have already spent out for the board and are looking to get the most from it.

Nintendo recently revealed that its Wii Fit and Balance Board sales have nearly outsold the PS3 globally, currently at a few million units behind the PS3, describing the device as almost a platform in its own right.
