Traxdata has launched what it describes as its next-generation movie player - the "USB Player".

By connecting a USB storage device to the USB Player, users can play their multimedia files on their TV including movies, music and photos.

The device can be connected to any televisions with HDMI, component and composite connectors and claims upscaling abilities up to 1080i.

The USB Player plays the following media types: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Xvid, MP3, WAV, JPEG, VOB, AVI and DAT. It also supports a range of subtitle files: SRT, IDX/SUB, ASS, SSA, SMI, PSB, SUB (type II).

  • When they say next-generation, it's not really all that new of an idea. DVD players and recorders have been coming with USB playback features included for MPEG/DivX for at least a year now and probably more. In fact for around the same price you can get a Samsung DVD-1080P9 DVD player that upscales better (1080P) and can play back pretty much the same formats plus DVD discs as well. Posted by GK, UK
