27 March 2009 14:55 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

The previously leaked Android-based HTC "Hero" smartphone could see a launch soon on Orange, according to French reports.

An Orange executive has told French site Mobinaute that the operator expects to release six Android phones during 2009.

The report, via a Google translation, suggests that as well as handsets from HTC, Orange is due to launch Android-based phones from Motorola, LG, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

As far as the HTC launch goes, the exec names the HTC phone code-named "Hero" as the first to launch with another Android-offering to follow within weeks.

We will keep you posted.
