Research In Motion has updated its Media Sync software for its BlackBerry smartphone range.

The Media Sync 2.0 software now offers support for Windows Media Player, Microsoft's desktop multimedia library offering.

This means that BlackBerry users will be able to sync their devices with the music collections stored on their PCs.

RIM had previously only offered support for iTunes syncing, now the company says: "Sync your desktop iTunes or Windows Media Player music files with your BlackBerry smartphone. BlackBerry Media Sync makes getting more from your music quick and easy!"

The updated version of the software is available now.
