Sony confirms PS2 PSP connectivity

3 March 2004 17:31 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Sony Playstation's president in Japan, Fumiya Takeno, has announced in a interview with a Japanese newspaper - the Mainchi Daily - that the PSP, PS2 and PSX will have connectivity through games, music and film.
The news doesn't come as too much of a surprise considering that the PSP is virtually a portable version of the PS2 and the media variant the PSX.

Takeno also hinted of the idea that you would be able to play on the PSP on the way home and then carry on playing on the PS2 when you finally get home suggesting that Sony may have bigger plans for the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format than previously thought.

The news adds to earlier statements that Sony are worried about third party developers merely creating ports of current PS2 titles because the two systems are so similar.
