Apple appears to be planning to launch a cheaper 17-inch iMac, if graphics on its own site are to be believed.

Italian website Setteb.it spotted what seems to be a leak from the company advertising a smaller iMac for $899 - around £614.

The Apple site stated: "The new 20-inch and 24-inch iMac deliver a 30 percent larger display, twice the memory and twice the storage. The new iMac line also includes a 17-inch model starting at $899".

In the States, the iMac price points are $1199 and $1499 for the 20-inch models and $1799 and $2199 for the 24-inchers. The UK gets prices of £949, £1199, £1499 and £1799.

The leak appeared on the education section of the Apple site, leading to fairly obvious speculation that the unconfirmed new model is aimed at schools and students.

We will keep you posted.
