Tanita announces BC-1000 body composition monitor

Sends your stats wirelessly to your PC

20 March 2009 11:10 GMT / By Verity Burns

Tanita Corporation has announced the BC-1000 body composition monitor, the first device confirmed as compatible with the Garmin FR60 fitness watch announced in January.

Using the ANT+ wireless connection standard, the BC-1000 is able to send various statistics about your physique wirelessly to your FR60 watch or PC.

As well as measurements on weight, body fat percentage and hydration levels, the BC-1000 body composition monitor also collects details on muscle mass, overall physique rating, daily caloric intake, metabolic age rating, bone mass and visceral fat.

These nine readings are taken by stepping on to the BC-1000 barefooted in the same way you would do on scales. However instead of appearing on a display, the results are beamed to your watch within seconds, and if your computer is in range with the ANT+ USB stick fitted, it will receive them automatically as well.

Due to be available this summer, the Tanita BC-1000 body composition monitor will have two bundled options – the BC-1000 body composition platform and wireless USB stick bundle for $279.99 – or BC-1000 body composition platform, FR60 fitness watch and wireless USB stick for $399.99.

No word on any European price or availability details but we'll keep you posted.
