GEAR4 announces VideoBuddy

AV kit for your iPod

19 March 2009 15:30 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

GEAR4 has launched a dongle for linking up your iPod to your TV, the "VideoBuddy", described as a compact, portable AV kit for iPod.

The gadget, that's powered by the 'pod, will let users watch video content stored on their iPods on the big screen.

When used with the iPod touch, thanks to the device's Wi-Fi connectivity, users can view online video, such as YouTube, on their television too.

Said to be easy to use, GEAR4 says "simply link up the VideoBuddy dongle to your TV using the included RCA cable".

The VideoBuddy, or PG402, will be available in April for £29.99 or 39.99 euros.

  • So, how is DRM dealt with ? Archos lets you view paid-for videos only on their tiny built-in screens. I would imagine Apple has the same licensing restrictions. Playing via a HDMI cable *might* allieviate the issue but if I can plug in standard composite leads I could in theory record to a VCR/TV capture card on my PC and bypass all licensing restrictions. I think GEAR4 should make it clear on this issue else they will have many unhappy customers claiming the device doesn't work when infact they are (possibly) breaching DRM licenses.
