Samsung has launched the Xplorer B2100, a new mobile phone that it says incorporates outdoor features, robust durability and comfortable grip.

Aimed as a mobile companion for consumers "who enjoy active outdoor activities", the phone is encased in anti-shock urethane material and is built to withstand "bumps, bangs, scrapes, scuffs, and even dust and water".

Featuring the IP57 certification, the Xplorer can withstand water up to one meter for 30 minutes and can hold up in hot and cold temps.

Other rugged features include loud external speakers, noise cancellation and a torch function.

The GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset gets a 1.77-inch display, a 1.3-megapixel camera with video recording, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a microSD card slot.

The Samsung Xplorer will be launched in European countries from April 2009.
