Dell's luxury "Adamo" has finally been unleashed, and as well as video and images, we can at last reveal the specs the laptop gets.

With a "world's thinnest laptop" claim, Dell is making much of the Adamo's looks.

The W x D x H dimensions are 13.03 x 9.5 x 0.65 inches while the chassis is milled from a single piece of aluminium, with a "scalloped" backlit keyboard.

There's an edge-to-edge, high-def glass display and the machine will be available in "Onyx" and "Pearl".

With prices starting at £1649 ($1999 in the US) Dell has found ways to tempt folk to spend more with a range of accessories, including an exclusive line of bags from TUMI.

Extras from Dell will include external storage options with 250GB or 500GB external hard drives, an external DVD+/-RW or Blu-ray disc drive, a matching 8GB USB drive and "connectors and cables".

So, to the actual Adamo spec, and the "luxury" laptop offers a 13.4-inch, 16:9 HD display, Windows Vista, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, SSD drives, Wireless N, Bluetooth 2.1, two USB ports, and the claim of around 5 hours battery life.

Available for pre-order this week with shipping starting 26 March, Adamo will be available online for purchase in 24 countries, including the UK and Ireland.

Further to the official announcement, Dell support documents have hinted at a 9-inch model, so if you like the look of the Adamo, but want a netbook, then you might want to hang on.

  • A sweet one, but too pricey Posted by asmodanus, Russia
  • It will be interesting to see if this can compete with a Macbook Pro (whose styling they have blatantly 'borrowed' from). Especially once Windows 7 is loaded onto it. Posted by Justin, UK
  • Looks nice, but not as nice as a Mac and certainly not running as svelte an OS as the Apple. Plus at that price it certainly blurs people's perceptions that Apple are overpriced. Price really needs to come down if Dell's to be any competition to macs and Vaios. Posted by Ricardo, UK
  • They have got to be joking at this price. I suspect they started developing this and the costs ran away with them as the recession deepened. £2300!
I know its slim and light but it also still lacks a lot of design flair compared to the Mac Air, and I don't event want one of those!

i genuinely thought they would come up with a powerhouse specification to match the price after all the endless teasers, but this is over the top. Seems like an aluminium thin version of their XPS13 which means you are paying over TWICE the cost to lose a few hundred grams and get a nice shiny case. I think that unless they make this a real fashion icon, they will get their fingers badly burnt on this.

Expect to see an adamo with same spec for £1300 this time next year I reckon. Only fool sand expense accounts need apply for the moment.
