Resident Evil 5 sells more than UK top ten combined

And 360 has the edge on PS3 once again

17 March 2009 9:34 GMT / By Verity Burns

It seems Resident Evil 5 certainly wanted to make its debut into the UK All Formats chart this week a memorable one, as it stormed straight in at number one, selling more copies than the rest of the titles in the top ten combined.

Chart-Track also confirmed that the Xbox 360 once again had the edge on its competitor, taking 55% of the sales compared to the PS3's 45%.

Elsewhere in the chart, Wii Fit worked its way back to number two, followed by Tom Clancy's Hawx and Professor Layton and the Curious Village, while Killzone 2 drops to number five.

Last week's number one, Empire: Total War, takes a tumble to eight, but Street Fighter IV slips completely out of the top ten to 13 for the first time since its release.

Other new entries failed to penetrate the top flight this week, including SOCOM: Confrontation at 11, Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force at 16 and Sonic and the Black Knight at 30.

The full top 10 are below:

1. Resident Evil 5
2. Wii Fit
3. Tom Clancy's HAWX
4. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
5. Killzone 2
6. FIFA 09
7. Call of Duty: World at War
8. Empire: Total War
9. Halo Wars
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

  • Anyone know the 360/PS3 console split in the UK? As clearly Microsoft PR want it all ways, they want to tell us that 360 has sold more consoles in the UK than the PS3, but then they want to forget that fact when they compare game sales...

All I see, is that as the PS3 userbase strenghtens, anyone making 360 exclusives titles are potentially cutting off half their userbase, and next year that userbase is likely to be more than half. Thankfully for PS3 owners, that works out nicely, as Sony own many more exclusives studios than Micorsoft does...

  • Hang on - this article confirms that the 360 sold 55% and the PS3 45%! What's your point? This article supports what MS are saying.... Posted by Chris, UK
  • I'm pretty sure that there are more than 10% more Xbox 360s than Ps3s, and with that logic, PS3 are doing better in video game per unit sales in the UK. Besides the xbox peaked to early in comparison to the ps3 and wii, with the probable price cut for ps3s in the coming months, the Xbox doesn't stand a chance. And when xbox lowers its price in reaction to sony it will gain the view of the cheaper and inferior product. Shame really. Does anyone think that the xbox360 is better than the ps3, of course in terms of functionality and appearance rather than value....

  • Wow, that's took me by surprise, it beat Wii Fit, and I thought that would never get beaten, oh well. Still a fan of Resident Evil
If X-Box 360 sells more consoles than PS3, but PS3 sells more games per unit, I suppose it works out they have an equal ground

  • im not suprised Xbox 360 has higher percentage, it simply because there's way more xbox 360's in the uk than ps3, but its a fair groung game i agree because there's less ps3 than xbox 360 sold in the uk but that means at 45 percent ps3 is sellin more games per unit than xbox 360...anyway just my own example might not mean much, but i have ps3 while my brothers has xbox 360, i have about 6 games, he only has 1 which is fifa 09, and all he's friends have all got xbox 360 but with one game , and that is fifa, while all my friends have ps3 but all on average got at least 4 games, ......
